Are PA's votes even needed for GOP?

Pennsylvania's primary isn't until the end of April, and if Mitt Romney keeps his winning streak going, the votes in the Keystone State might not matter.

Pennsylvania's primary is still a few months away so if Romney's winning streak does continue, does the Keystone State even matter in presidential politics?

Primaries and caucuses give candidates a chance to gain momentum, gather volunteers and raise money.

Pennsylvania's primary isn't until April 24.

"Romney doing well so he may go all the way," said Pennsylvania voter James Capetanakis.

The race for the Republican nomination for president is in prime time but will Pennsylvania votes even matter come April 24th?

"Really depends on if Mitt Romney can build upon his success and expand his collation," said political pundit Chris Borick.

Romney is leading the pack thus far and before Pennsylvania voters get their say, Romney and the other candidates will have gone through more than 30 primaries and caucuses -- more than enough time for a candidate to get the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination.

"Still an outside chance that Pennsylvania's presidential primary is relevant," Borick said.

Borick says for Pennsylvania votes to matter, libertarian-leaning Ron Paul needs to keep pace with the moderate Romney. Borick says Romney would needs to falter, opening the door for a more conservative candidate.

"Key is will there be one other candidate standing in that mix to be the alternative to those candidates," according to Borick.

Back in 2008 Keystone state Democratic voters played a key role in picking between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

For a similar situation this year Borick says strong showings from anyone other than Romney are must in upcoming races.

"Really depends on how well they do on those next races down south in South Carolina and Florida," he said.

Borick says the last time Republican voters got a say in a Presidential primary was way back in 1980.
