EASTON, Pa. -

Authorities allege a homeless woman tried to rob someone as he withdrew money from an ATM.

Easton police charged Patricia L. Dorward with a single felony count of attempted robbery in connection with the incident outside South Third Street bank Wednesday afternoon. District Judge James Narlesky arraigned the 44-year-old, setting bail at $10,000.

James Tamborell told police that a woman later identified as Dorward asked him for money as he approached the ATM outside the Wells Fargo Bank at 6 S. Third Street shortly before 4 p.m., according to court records. He reportedly told her he had no money and proceeded with his transaction.

While the victim stood at the ATM, Dorward allegedly approached him from behind, held something to his back and said, “Do it, do it.” As a customer walked out of the bank, Tamborell yelled for the person to call police, prompting Dorward to run east on Lehn’s Court.

Police found a woman matching the description provided by the victim about a half block away at the intersection of Northampton and North Sitgreaves streets.

Dorward failed to post bail following her arraignment and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Sept. 28.
