Police in Northampton County say imposters are posing as utility workers.
They're warning you to be careful who you let into your home.
Residents on Ferry Street in Wilson Borough, Northampton County, say it's usually quiet.
Now they are wondering who the men are walking the street posing as UGI workers.
“I just don't really know what their advantage would be other than to rob your house maybe,” said Wilson Borough resident John Bogansky.
“We just want to make sure to remind everyone that scheduled UGI work typically takes place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.,” said Becky Eshback, spokesperson for UGI.
Wilson borough police say the men, with Jamaican accents, were walking around the neighborhood at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.
And they were knocking on a lot of doors.
“UGI employees wear a blue uniform with a UGI logo clearly specified right on the chest," added Eshbach. "Also we have an employee ID badge that you can see the employee's name along with their picture.”
One man actually saw the men and talked to them.
He gave them a UGI account number but when he got suspicious he ripped up the paperwork and asked for it back.
“They asked me to see my electric bill and gas bill UGI and MetEd to see if I was eligible for a discount of some sort,” said Michael Stull, who lives on Ferry Street.
Michael Stull says the worker filled out all the paperwork.
Then started calling in the numbers.
The men fit the police description.
“The guy on the phone had a Jamaican accent as well and I noticed there was a guy across the street and I just said to my girlfriend the guy on the phone had a Jamaican accent so I figured he could be sitting in the car somewhere,” said Stull.
Stull ripped up the paper.
“Nothing made sense to what he was saying,” added Stull
“At this time we are pursuing them, by the look and by the help of the homeowner in this instance and hopefully finding them soon,” said Eshbach.
The men don't work for UGI.
We tried to call the company on the letterhead, but the office was closed.
If you have any information about this case please call the Wilson borough police at 610-258-.8542.
