Allentown city council has officially named the city's new police chief.

Council approved veteran officer Keith Morris for the job at Thursday night's meeting, though there was some contention over giving him a raise and council decided that with the city budget pending, there would be no raise.

Mayor Ed Pawlowski appointed Morris as interim chief last year to replace Joel Fitzgerald who left Allentown to become police chief in Fort Worth, Texas.

Morris has been an officer with the Allentown Police Department for nearly two decades.
