The bomb squad was called out to the area of Allen and Fulton streets.
Police say the incident happened around 12:40 p.m. Saturday when an individual pulled up in a car with an old ordnance he wanted the National Guard Armory to dispose of, according to police.
Police say a half-block area was evacuated as crews determined if the device had the potential to explode.
The Allentown bomb squad was on the scene and the military bomb squad was called in. Around 6 p.m., military personnel removed the device and the scene was cleared.
Police say the individual who brought the device to the scene said he found the ordnance in storage at his residence and wanted it disposed of.
