Brianne Bassler shoplifts cosmetics, falsifies prescription, police say
A woman who shoplifted cosmetics from a pharmacy is also in trouble for tampering with her prescription for a pain killer, officials said.
Brianne Bassler altered a 5 mg. prescription for oxycodone to read 15 mg. before trying to have it filled at the Walgreens pharmacy at 2979 Linden St., Bethlehem, on April 29, officials said.
Police found out about the altered prescription after they were called to the Walgreens when Bassler and a male accomplice walked out with about $85 worth of cosmetics they had stashed in her purse at about 7:25 p.m., officials said.
Bassler returned the stolen items to the store after she was confronted by police in her home at 1717 Falcon Dr., Bethlehem, officials said, adding that Bassler's doctor confirmed on April 30 that Bassler's oxycodone prescription was for 5 mg.
Bassler, 24, was arraigned Saturday afternoon on charges of criminal attempt, forgery and retail theft and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. May 14.
