A police officer involved in a deadly crash in Carbon County has been placed on leave.

Earlier this month, Nesquehoning Police Officer Steven Homanko was driving when his car collided with another car on Route 209.

Sixty-nine-year-old Carola Sauers was in the other car and was killed.

Her husband was seriously injured.

Now officials say Homanko has been put on unpaid leave pending an investigation by State Police.

Investigators will try to determine whether Homanko was in a pursuit at the time of the crash.. and if proper safety protocols were followed.
