EASTON, Pa. -

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli discussed how officials are using seized drug money to take drug dealers off the streets Wednesday.

It's part of the county's Drug Forfeiture Program.

The District Attorney's Office is authorized to take money and assets, including cars and real estate, used in the distribution of drugs.

The assets are usually auctioned off and the money goes back into the county.

"The forfeited money is used by my office to purchase equipment for police as well as to fund undercover purchases of controlled substances during our investigations," Morganelli said.

Morganelli also said that in the last fiscal year of the program his office seized more than $100,000.
