Final Freemansburg Square Land Development plan may soon be known
The Bethlehem Township Board of Commissioners approved one resolution and one motion during Thursday night’s taut and focused meeting.
By a 5-0 vote commissioners approved the execution of a PPL right-of-way agreement for a temporary pole located on the Sayage property, which was necessitated by the Freemansburg Avenue roadway improvements.
Township Solicitor James Broughal said the property had been “condemned and acquired” by the township.
In the evening’s other vote, commissioners approved a motion authorizing that Ronald Weaver receive a monthly pension of $1,372. Township Manager Howard Kutzler noted Weaver, a mechanic for the township, was a long-time employee who after many years of work decided to retire.
In other business, Broughal informed commissioners that he expects commissioners to finally have a chance to hear a preliminary and final plan on the Freemansburg Square Land Development proposal within less than two months. The proposal has been on the township’s “old business” agenda since October of last year, with delays after delay preventing a discussion of the the topic, let alone a vote. Broughal noted the extension granted toward the project will expire in less than two months and be eligible for review and vote.
The project, the brainchild of Dr. Atul Amin, would develop a commercial park highlighted by a 10-story hotel on Freemansburg Avenue at Emrick Boulevard, nearby to Route 33. Should the project garner approval, Amin’s attention would to securing a hotel franchise agreement for the structure that will be the project’s anchor that includes a 10-story parking garage, three six-story retail buildings, two five-story office buildings and a three-story bank and office building on just under nine acres of land.
