WEST WINDSOR TWP., N.J. -

The former director of a private Allentown school was charged with sexually assaulting a young boy and was arrested in Georgia last month.

Thomas Curran, 55, of Ewing Twp., Mercer Co., N.J., is accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with the 11-year-old victim on several occasions between April 2013 and June 2013 while acting as an after-school caregiver in the victim's West Windsor Twp., N.J., home.

Curran was middle school director at The Swain School at 1100 S. 24th Street in Allentown from 2000 to 2005.

Curran was arrested in the Atlanta suburb of Woodstock, Georgia, and after signing a waiver of extradition, he was brought back to New Jersey on Feb. 3.

According to Ed Easterly, Swain's attorney, there were no complaints about Curran while he was employed at Swain, and Curran left the school for reasons unrelated to this investigation.

Easterly also said Curran passed all of his background checks.

Curran is also a  former dean of students and science teacher at The American Boychoir School, a musical boarding and day school located in Princeton, N.J.

He is charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

He's being held in the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $250,000 bail.
