UGI crews were called to the scene of a struck gas line in Lehigh County on Thursday.
A main gas line was struck around 7:20 a.m. by a third party working near Delaware Avenue and N. Bergen Street in Fountain Hill, UGI officials said.
According to UGI, 19 people were evacuated in a one-block area of Delaware Avenue, and crews were going door-to-door to check gas levels and restart service.
The area was deemed to be safe and the broken line was repaired, said UGI officials.
The Reading-based company has been in the area to replace old cast-iron pipes with new plastic ones as part of its plan to update infrastructure, according to UGI.
Workers employed by another company hit the 2-inch gas main with a backhoe, UGI said.
