Get ready Route 22 commuters:
Major traffic backups expected as bridge project starts Monday
Think commuting on Route 22 is tough right now?
The commute is about to become even more tedious starting Monday when set-up work begins for a two-year project to rehabilitate the Easton-Phillipsburg Route 22 toll bridge.
The set-up work began at 2 a.m. Monday when work crews set up a single lane in each direction, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

The commission is warning motorists to expect significant travel delays in the eastbound direction of Route 22 far in advance of the toll bridge at the Delaware River.
The project is expected to be finished in the spring of 2015, but there will be times during the winter months when all lanes will reopen.
Officials are urging motorists to use Interstate 78 as an alternative route.
