A former teacher in the Reading School District has been arrested and charged for allegedly sexually abusing one of her students.
Jessica Saienni surrendered Friday morning to authorities in Reading. The Berks County district attorney's office first launched its investigation after being tipped off by Children and Youth Services.
Saienni, 30, remained stone-faced and didn't utter a word when she left the Berks County Courthouse with her attorney.
In the summer of 2012, Saienni had a sexual relationship with her 14-year-old student, according to investigators.
"This student did not make any passes on his own. The aggressor here was the defendant," said District Attorney John Adams.
Saienni was the boy's seventh grade science teacher at Southwest Middle School in Reading.
"The teacher clearly befriended this student, bought this student a birthday cake after the school year and had the student in to help her clean her room," said Adams.
The district attorney said their relationship turned sexual between June and August 2012.
The initial contact between the boy and Saienni occurred in her vehicle on the parking lot of the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex in Spring Twp., Berks Co., according to investigators.
The relationship, according to court documents, then proceeded to involve Saienni driving the boy to her home in Bethlehem numerous times and engaging in sexual conduct.
"For somebody that's a teacher, that's really outrageous," said Katrina Pachilis, a parent in Reading.
"I am certain that this teacher knew what she was doing was wrong," said Adams.
The boy also told investigators that Saienni sent him nude photographs of herself to his cell phone and instructed him not to tell anyone about their relationship.
Saienni is the estranged wife of the son of Bethlehem police Chief Mark DiLuzio. DiLuzio told 69 News on Friday they were stunned and never saw any warning signs.
DiLuzio said his son, Bethlehem police Ofc. Michael DiLuzio, and Saienni have been separated for awhile. DiLuzio reportedly filed for divorce the same day a search warrant was executed on his home.
Saienni now lives in Landenberg, Chester Co. She was arraigned late Friday morning by a judge in the Berks County Courthouse on numerous charges, including statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and institutional sexual assault. She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
Saienni has resigned from her teaching position, according to Pierre Cooper, a member of the Reading School Board. Her formal arraignment will take place in a few weeks.
