HANOVER TWP., Pa. -

A Carbon County man stole $22,800 in freight while working as a truck driver at a UPS facility in Northampton County, officials said.

Daniel Devitt was charged with theft and receiving stolen property in connection with incidents that happened in January at a UPS freight facility on Stoke Park Road in Hanover Township, according to court documents.

UPS security personnel noticed three skids full of wrapped, broken televisions had been taken, police said.

Devitt loaded the skids onto his truck and then drove to a closed business in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, which was not one of his designated stops, according to court documents.

UPS security told police that Devitt, 46, of Palmerton, admitted to stealing the televisions, as well as other items in the past, according to court documents.

UPS officials then told police that, one day after firing Devitt, they discovered missing three skids with $22,800 in merchandise for a store opening in Georgia. Surveillance video showed Devitt loading this merchandise on his trailer, according to court documents.
