Students in Northampton County are ditching the classroom for the great outdoors.

Easton Area Middle School in Forks Township unveiled its new courtyard Tuesday.

Teachers had big plans for a new community garden, and Lowe's helped them dream bigger. The home improvement chain worked with the school to turn the space into an outdoor classroom, garden and relaxation area.

"We're hoping to use some of the veggies in a cooking class," said Chris Lee, a teacher. "The art teachers want to use the space more. I have a couple social studies teachers who want to a different place to teach their lessons and change the pace, and a couple science teachers are going to do some plant experiments.

Students will get to use the area right away, and teachers are already making plans for outdoor experiments in the spring.
