LVIA airshow set for end of August
The sequestration has grounded many airshows across the country.
But this summer one airshow will be flying high above Lehigh Valley International Airport.
Most air shows rely on military support but not this one.
The Lehigh Valley Airshow will have some of the biggest names in aviation entertainment. The Lehigh Valley Airshow will feature some of the biggest acts on the airshow circuit: The Iron Eagles demonstration team, Otto the Helicopter and all women Misty Blues Skydiving team.
"The team has been in existence for about 28 years so we travel all around the country and the world and do airshows," said ER:
Kutztown resident and Misty Blues Team member Aleth Matrone.
Matrone says she is exited to be performing for a home state crowd.
"Our symbol is our American flag it's 30 feet tall by 60 feet long so that will be coming down to start the show," said Matrone.
The show will also feature a static display static display of military aircraft and a classic car show.
Airshow organizer Skip Lehman says sequestration has grounded most air shows this year, but this air show is built without military support.
"If you want to see a real world class airshow this is the only one," said Airshow organizer Skip Lehman.
About 15,000 people are expected to turn out for the two day event August 24th and 25th.
The Sands Bethlehem Casino Resort is the title sponsor.
"It's a great way to bring in new visitors into the Lehigh Valley to see what we have to offer," said Sands President Robert DeSalvio.
Lehigh Valley International Airport Executive Director Charles Everett says the air show will also give the airport and its services some major exposure.
'We will be able to showcase the facilities and the activities. Some of the behind the scenes things that go on at an airport," said Everett.
The airshow is expected top cost around $285,000. LVIA officials say it's expected to make a profit of roughly $30,000 but they say the exposure LVIA will get will be priceless.
