A parolee from state prison punched his stepson in the face and grabbed him by the neck for not cleaning up the basement, officials said.
They report Mark D. Barends attacked the 15-year-old after waking him at 5 a.m. Friday in their home in the 200 block of East 3rd Street in Bangor, Northampton County.
Barends was naked on his front porch, screaming and yelling, with scratch marks on his chest and a bleeding right elbow, when police arrived.
Barends told police he and his stepson got into a fight after Barends asked the teen to clean up the basement, which Barends said his stepson had "trashed."
The boy had scratches on the left side of his face and left wrist and bruises on his neck that appeared to be made by a hand and fingers, officials noted.
Barends was released from prison six months ago, after being convicted of marijuana possession with intent to deliver, court papers say.
Barends, 42, was arraigned on charges of assault, harassment and disorderly conduct and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 4.
