WILSON BOROUGH, Pa. -

Investigators allege that a Northampton County man was caught taking his slice of the profits from a Wilson Borough pizza shop.

Wilson police charged Gerardo Lopez Jr. with two counts of theft and a single count of receiving stolen property, all felonies, for allegedly stealing more than $5,000 from the Little Caesars at 2439 Butler St. District Judge Richard Yetter arraigned the 23-year-old Wednesday night, setting bail at $10,000 with a 10 percent cash option.

The franchise owner reported to authorities that the store is periodically audited and that a May audit showed the location was short $5,515. A subsequent review of video surveillance allegedly showed Lopez taking money from a cash register.

He would reportedly ring out a customer, pressing the “no sale” button, but continue with the sale, according to court records. Police said surveillance showed him placing the money in the far left slot of the register draw and later taking the money out of the register.

Lopez, of Iron Street in Easton, failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Sept. 30. If he does post bail, he’s prohibited from entering any Little Ceasar’s.
