Richard Bentzoni uses debit card he stole from mom to withdraw money, police say
A man withdrew almost $700 from his mom's bank account using a debit card he stole from her purse, officials said.
Richard D. Bentzoni used the stolen debit card to make a $301.75 withdrawal on Sunday from an ATM at a Merchants Bank branch in Mount Bethel, Lower Mount Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., and a $362 withdrawal on Monday from an ATM at a Turkey Hill store in Bangor, Northampton Co., officials said.
Bentzoni's mother filed a theft report Tuesday at the Bangor police station, and investigators determined her son was the culprit after checking surveillance video from the Turkey Hill store, officials said.
Bentzoni admitted to making the two withdrawals with a debit card he had taken from his mother's purse in her bedroom, officials said.
Bentzoni, 18, of 544 Columbia Ave., Bangor, was arraigned Tuesday night on charges of theft and receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $7,500 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 23.
