EASTON, Pa. -

A section of Route 611 in Easton is closing next week so repairs can be made at nearby Mattes Lane.

The work is scheduled to start Wednesday and continue for two or three weeks.

A detour will be put in place, said David Hopkins, the city's public works director.

He explained Mattes Lane is a tiny road but sewer, water and gas lines run beneath it.

The work is being done to repair a washed-out retaining wall at Mattes Lane, which is up a hill from Route 611.

Route 611 is being closed as a precaution to protect drivers on the highway, because drilling at Mattes Lane will cause heavy vibrations and rocks could shake loose.
