EASTON, Pa. -

A Lehigh Valley man who's serving a life sentence is one step closer to getting a new trial.

Scott Oliver was convicted for raping and killing 11-year-old Melissa Jaroschak in Easton in 1989.

Oliver's attorney filed briefs Tuesday under the post-conviction relief act, asking for a new trial.

The attorney said DNA testing that was done in the past was inconclusive, and he said new testing would prove his client is innocent.

A Northampton County judge is expected to issue a ruling in the case soon.
