HELLERTOWN, Pa. -

Children who attend pre-school in the basement St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Hellertown were moved to the church's school building Monday after a sinkhole was discovered outside the church.

Matt Kerr, spokesman for the Allentown Catholic Diocese, said the 20 students were moved as a precaution.

The sinkhole, described as eight feet wide and 10 feet deep, opened Monday.

Kerr said engineers are doing an assessment to determine if St. Theresa's has received any structural damage.

The church is located at 1408 Easton Road in Hellertown.
