William Smoot of Easton dies in N.J. accident
Police said he crossed double-yellow line to pass
A 47-year-old Easton man was killed in a car accident Wednesday night in Warren County, N.J.
New Jersey State Police report William Smoot was driving east on Route 57 through Franklin Township at 8:19 p.m. Wednesday when he attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing the double yellow line.
Smoot's 2009 Pontiac G6 collided with a westbound Subaru Outback driven by 49-year-old David Beaudoin of Washington, N.J.
Police report Smoot's vehicle rotated, stopping in a westbound direction in the westbound lane.
Smoot, who was unrestrained by a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Beaudoin was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Phillipsburg where he is listed in stable condition.
The accident, which occurred at milepost 4.3, remains under investigation.
