Ambulance driver, James Rigney Jr., charged with DWI on duty
A Hackettstown, New Jersey, ambulance driver is facing DUI charges after police say he was driving drunk while on the job.
Police said officers responded to a medical call on Vans Drive in Hackettstown, Warren County, around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
An officer at the Vans drive location saw the Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue squad ambulance drive past the location, then turned the wrong way into the complex, police said.
The officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver, 39-year-old James Rigney, Jr., police said.
Rigney refused to do a field sobriety test, and was then taken to police headquarters.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone and careless driving.
