New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed an executive order implementing odd-even rationing for gas purchases in 12 New Jersey counties, including Hunterdon and Warren Counties.
The order takes effect at noon on Saturday November 3rd.
The order, signed Friday night, mandates that gas stations only sell fuel for use in passenger automobiles bearing license plates, the last number of which is an even number, on even numbered days of each month. License plates ending in odd numbers on would be able to purchase gas on odd numbered days. Specialized plates, or those without a number, will be considered odd numbers.
"This system will ease the strain on those gas stations still operating, while we work to bring more online for the public to access fuel, in a manner that is fair, easy to understand, and less stressful," said Christie.
The order takes effect at noon November 3, 2012. The other counties which are part of the order are Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, and Union.
