Half-a-dozen irate residents told Phillipsburg Town Council, Mayor Harry Wyant, Police Chief James Faulborn and anyone else who would listen Tuesday night that the quaint little town by the Delaware River is going straight to hell.

“Please do something,” pleaded resident Christina Albright.

The something she and other residents want done is for officials and police to address the activities of juveniles on Davis Street who have, in the words of one resident, “created a war zone” by verbally harassing neighbors and their young children, abusing noise ordinances day and night and consuming alcohol and controlled substances in public view with little or no remedy on the part of responding police officers.

“There are limits to what the officers can do” without seeing illegal activity, according to comments made by Chief Faulborn Tuesday night.

That wasn’t good enough for Councilmen James Stettner, John Lynn Jr. and Todd Tersigni who told Chief Faulborn they didn’t want hear the same complaints at the next council meeting.

“We need to help these people,” Councilman Tersigni said directly to Chief Faulborn.

In other business, council voted 5-0 to amend the town code regarding the videotaping and recording of town council meetings.

The rule states that “no more than two video recording devices at a time shall be permitted at a Town Council meeting and that “video recording is not permitted to commence until the meeting has been called to order and must cease at the adjournment of the meeting.”
