A single bed bug was found last week in Green Street Elementary School, reported Phillipsburg School District Superintendent George Chando.

He said the insect, which feeds on blood, was found late Friday in the school at 1000 Green St. in Phillipsburg.

On Monday, an inspection was conducted and a licensed pet control specialist did a "low impact treatment" on suspected areas of the building, reported the superintendent.

Chando said they did notify parents, even though such notification is not required, because  the district feels it's important to keep parents informed.
