Pedestrian killed Friday night in Clinton
Sixty-one-year-old Thomas Kress of Clinton died after being hit by an SUV Friday night.
At 9:18 p.m. Friday, Clinton police, fire, and EMS personnel were called to Route 173 in the area of the Clinton Village Apartments for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, EMS workers began treating Kress for head injuries. He was flown by Atlantic Air 3 helicopter to Morristown Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries, reported Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III.
Police determined that a 2009 Ford Escape operated by Annmarie Norris, 49, of Union Township, was traveling west on Route 173 when Kress walked into the street in front of the SUV and was struck.
“This area of Route 173 is not well lit, there were no crosswalks in the vicinity, and Mr. Kress was wearing all dark clothing," reported Clinton Police Chief Brett Matheis. "The investigation also determined that the driver was not speeding and there are no indications that a cell phone was in use by the driver.”
No charges have been filed against the driver.
The crash scene investigation was conducted by Clinton Patrolmen Jim Kramer and Jeff Ollerenshaw, and Sergeant Jay Hunter.
The joint investigation with the Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office Fatal Accident Collision Team is ongoing. Toxicology results on both the driver and the victim are pending.
