J.C Penney, a longtime staple at the struggling Phillipsburg Mall, is closing its doors for good on Saturday.
The Phillipsburg J.C. Penney is one of 33 under-performing stores the company announced would be closing early this year.
In total, about 2,000 jobs were being cut in the 33 store closings. The cuts are expected to save about $65 million a year, according to the company.
Earlier this week, the Phillipsburg Mall posted the following comment on its Facebook page regarding the closing of the store: "As this store was one of the original anchors at Phillipsburg Mall, we wish all JCPenney associates the best and thank them for many great years. The mall is looking forward to bringing in a new retailer very soon."
