The harvest from New Jersey's black bear season is coming in under expectations.

Hunters have killed 228 black bears through Thursday.

Hunters killed 469 bears last year.

They were expected to hit that figure again this year.

State environmental officials say the hunt is meant to control the bear population and reduce human-and-bear incidents.

The black bear season wraps up tomorrow.
