During Monday night's School Board meeting, the district had two presentations where they honored students who won awards for Key Club and Middle School Band and Choir. Rows of students and their parents were present at the meeting for the presentations.
On May 18, 2012, the Phillipsburg Middle School Band and Choir participated in the Music in the Park Competition. The choir scored first place in their category with an excellent rating, this is the second year in the row that the choir had scored first place in their category.
The Middle School Band finished second out of nineteen ensembles, missing the winning first place award by one point. Middle School Principal Richard Kistler spoke about the choir and band in high regards, extremely proud of the talent and accomplishments of the students from the middle school.
"This recognition is well deserved," said Kistler, "Over 90% of our band and our choir members who take up nearly one third of the schools population, scored proficient and/or advanced proficient in the New Jersey mathematics and language arts High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA), they are all very talented."
High School Prinicpal Greg Troxell recognized the Key Club students who placed first place in the Kiwanis Family Project Competition which recognized many joint projects they do, sponsoring the Kiwanis Club. The Key Club had 185 members this year.
