Phillipsburg Town Council takes action on plumbing, parking, police
The Phillipsburg Town Council approved several ordinances and resolutions at their meeting on Monday night regarding town plumbing, handicap parking spaces within the town, and police salaries.
The first ordinance that the Council approved focused on the plumbing fixtures throughout the town. The ordinance states, “All fixtures with outlets emptying into the main sewer, installed in cellars or basements of any or all buildings within the limits of the Town of Phillipsburg, are done so solely at the risk of the owner.” This ordinance will take effect immediately as required by law according to Council.
Council also approved a resolution to designate certain parking spaces in Phillipsburg as handicapped spaces. The streets that were included in this resolution were Bennett Street, Brainard Street, Chambers Street, Lewis Street, Lincoln Street, Mercer Street, Rose Street, Sitgreaves Street, Thomas Street, and Washington Street.
A resolution was brought to Council regarding police patrolmen salaries. Council approved the resolution giving a 1.85% increase for three years to police patrolmen throughout the town. Council also approved giving the mayor the power to execute the contract.
Council President Randy Piazza, Sr. closed the meeting by commenting on the recent super storm that hit Phillipsburg.
“I understand the frustration, sometimes you get a little impatient with no power and not heat, I was in the same situation,” said Piazza, “This was just one of those disasters that we have to get through and we will get through it.”
