Police: Man robbed former Lopatcong employer....twice

A New Jersey man robbed his former employer on two separate occasions, police said.

On July 27 Lopatcong Twp., police responded to a theft from a home on River Road. The homeowner told police that someone entered the residence, and took four personal checks from a checkbook.

These checks were later forged and cashed at an Easton bank by Timothy Vaughn, a former employee of the homeowner, police said.

The employer was not named.

On Monday, police returned to the home for a second burglary. The homeowner had found that someone had entered his home again and removed nearly $3,500 in jewelry and food.

While at the home, police gathered evidence and information identifying Vaughn, 28, of 281 Bates Street, Phillipsburg, N.J., as a possible suspect.

Police found Vaughn walking along River Road, and he ran away, leading police on a foot pursuit.

Vaughn was caught a short time later and taken into custody.

Vaughn had a backpack which contained pieces of copper piping he removed from a vacant house owned by Lopatcong Twp., police said.

Police also found that Vaughn had unrelated outstanding warrants from multiple jurisdictions totaling nearly $5,000.

He faces charges of burglary, theft and criminal trespass.

He was taken to the Warren County Correctional Center in lieu of bail.
