READINGTON TWP., N.J. -

Balloons of all colors are taking flight in Hunterdon County, New Jersey this weekend.

The QuickChek Festival of ballooning started Friday.

Lots of vendors and plenty of entertainment are waiting for people at the airport in Readington Township, New Jersey.

"We came here from Staten Island, my wife and I, it's her birthday and we were looking for something nice to do," said Matt Long.

Organizers of the 32nd Annual QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning say there are plenty of family friendly things to do.

"We have great music kicking off [Friday] night at 8 p.m. with America presented by PNC Bank," added Howard Freeman, executive producer of the festival. "We have a great fireworks show."

People say they enjoy all the other family friendly events, but they also say they go to the festival for one thing, to see the hot air balloons go up in the air.

Some of the crews took flight early Friday morning.

One hundred different balloons will be flying in the air this weekend.

"We had Angry Birds, who hasn't seen the Angry Birds icon," added Freeman. "We had a hummingbird up from Brazil. When you see all these balloons up in the air, I mean it just makes the hair on your arms stand on end."

Pilots from all over the country are participating in the event and say this is one of the most beautiful backdrops for flying in the country.

"You can see pretty much everything and it's just tranquil," said Daryl Funkhouser, owner of D & D Ballooning in Virginia. "It's real nice and it's quiet."

People can sign up for balloon rides during the event.

Balloon rides take place twice a day all weekend.
