NEWARK, N.J. -

12 jurors will start deciding whether the so-called "Bridgegate" scandal was actually a criminal conspiracy fueled by revenge.

Opening statements begin in federal court in Newark for the trial of Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly.

The two are facing federal fraud and civil rights charges.

They were both former allies of Governor Chris Christie..

Defense attorneys are expected to argue that Baroni and Kelly's actions may have been ethically suspect, but weren't criminal.

Christie has not been accused of any wrongdoing, but his name is expected to show up quite a bit during the trial.
