New Jerseyans will get to see the candidates for governor in their first joint debate of the campaign.

Republican Gov. Chris Christie and Democrat Barbara Buono will respond to questions at William Paterson University in Wayne at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The one-hour exchange will be broadcast by the CBS TV stations in New York and Philadelphia at 7 p.m.

The candidates are likely to face questions about property taxes and gay marriage.
Polls have shown Christie with a strong lead in the race for his second term.

Buono is a 20-year state legislator who is giving up her state Senate seat to run against Christie.

The election takes place on Nov. 5.
