Fernando Gonzalez-Lopez charged with attacking roommate with screwdriver

Incident occurred early Tuesday in Readington Township

Fernando Gonzalez-Lopez is charged with attacking his roommate with a screwdriver early Tuesday morning in Readington Township.

At about 3:20 a.m. Tuesday,  Readington Township police responded to a reported assault at a residence on Route 22 in Whitehouse Station.

Investigators determined that two roommates had an altercation and a screwdriver was used to injure a 23-year-old male at the residence.

Detectives were able to identify the assailant as Gonzalez-Lopez, also 23. He was tracked to a nearby motel and placed under arrest.

Gonzalez-Lopez was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $75,000 and the suspect was committed to the Hunterdon County Jail awaiting a first court appearance.

Agencies assisting the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and Readington Township Police in tracking Gonzalez-Lopez include the New Jersey State Police, Clinton Township Police, Branchburg Township Police, and Tewksbury Township Police.
