State food stamp computers down for several hours due to computer glitch
10 states, Virgin Islands affected
A computer glitch by vendor has shut down food stamp system for recipients in 10 states.
Those who tried to redeem food stamps in Pennsylvania and nine other states Friday morning were turned away.
Officials at the Pa. Department of Welfare said the statewide EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) was down since 7 a.m. Friday because of a problem with JP Morgan, the state's EBT vendor.
JP Morgan idenitifed the problem and the system was back up by 1:30 p.m. Fridayebt
Other states affected by the glitch: Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia and Kentucky. The issue even reached as far as recipients in the Virgin Islands.
