Jay Paterno, the son of legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, announced Friday that he's dropping out of the race.
Paterno says discussions with his lawyers have convinced him that fighting the challenges to his nomination petition would distract from his campaign.
Like other lieutenant governor candidates, Paterno needed at least 1,000 voters' signatures, including at least 100 signatures in five different counties.
He was one of six candidates vying to be the running mate of whomever was picked to be the Democratic nominee.
Paterno had announced his candidacy last month.
The primary is set for May 20th.
