Pennsylvania insurance enrollments said to surge ahead of deadline
Insurance enrollments under the federal health care law are surging ahead of the deadline to sign up, Pennsylvania health care advocates said Monday.
Tuesday night is the deadline to enroll in a plan that takes effect Jan. 1. That's after the federal government extended it another day to accommodate heavy demand on the Healthcare.gov website.
The next deadline is Jan. 15 for a plan that takes effect Feb. 1.
Antoinette Kraus, of the Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Health Access Network, said more than half of all the enrollments her organization assisted happened this past week. The signup period began Oct. 1.
Meanwhile, Laura Line, of Philadelphia-based Resources for Human Development, said her group enrolled people all weekend and was very busy again Monday.
Federal officials said nearly 11,800 Pennsylvanians signed up through Nov. 30.
