Powerball Jackpot Grows to nearly $245 Million
Drawing is Wednesday night
Continued strong ticket sales have increased the Powerball jackpot to a $244.7 million cash prize for the Wednesday drawing.
Tickets will be available until 9:59 p.m. Wednesday. Officials at the Pennsylvania Lottery advise players to purchase their Powerball tickets early to avoid any last-minute rush.
Powerball players pay $2 and select five white balls from the first set of 59 numbers plus a single red ball, the Powerball, from a second set of 35 numbers.
Players may select their own numbers using a Powerball playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot.
There also are eight additional ways for players to win a cash prize.
Powerball tickets are sold in 43 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The jackpot had rolled to a $230.3 million cash prize, after the drawing on Saturday produced no jackpot winner.
That day one winning Powerball ticket worth $1 million was sold in Langhorne, Bucks County, and more than 124,900 other Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball tickets won prizes of up to $40,000.
