Excessive speed caused a fiery tanker truck crash at an interstate interchange near Harrisburg earlier this year, Pennsylvania State Police said.

A reconstruction of the accident revealed the driver, Thomas Uecker, 52, of Dover, was traveling between 48 and 50 miles an hour in an area where the speed limit for tractor-trailers is 40 mph, said Tpr. Rob Hicks.

The truck, which was hauling diesel fuel, flipped over May 9 on a ramp from Interstate 81 North to Routes 22/322, north of the Susquehanna River. The resulting fire caused more than $10 million worth of damage and closed I-81 for several days.

Uecker was charged last week with three summary traffic offenses.
