A large American flag was blown by the heavy winds and got stuck in some power lines outside the Burger King on Route 663 in Upper Pottsgrove Township.

One of Hollywood's elite gave some final advice to some of Montgomery County's finest high-school students.

Academy Award winning producer and director Oliver Stone addressed the class of 2013 Saturday morning at The Hill School in Pottstown.

Stone -- who graduated from the Hill School himself in 1964 --- is famous for such movies as Platoon and Wall Street.

He joked with the grads saying -- times may have been tough during his tenure on the Hill but it's made him who he is today.

"Over time I came through Hill's crisis and I had success..far greater success than I ever imagined. Eventually as life goes on, you'll fall down but have more rising up," Stone said.

Stone was also honored as the school's 15th recipient of the Sixth Form Leadership Award in a private ceremony last night.

A woman is facing a list of charges in connection with an accident that killed a teenaged boy last month.

Sarah Ann Derstein was arrested Friday after officials said she was responsible for hitting two teenagers walking on the side of a Hatfield Twp. road, killing one of them.

The accident happened April 26 on Route 309 near Mill Road around 11:30 p.m. as Dennis Kee and Deshawn Page were walking next to the shoulder of the road with three other friends.

Officials said Derstein hit Kee and Page with her car while she was texting and drunk. Her blood alcohol content was .167, which is more than twice the Pa. legal limit.

Kee was thrown over the guardrail and landed in a field 10-15 feet from the road. He was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital about an hour later.

Page suffered a broken elbow.

Officials said she fled the scene while the others ran for help. She returned to the crash scene about 45 minutes later.

Derstein faces charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol, homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death or personal injury, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person, and charges.

Matthew Royer of Montgomery Co., reported missing last week, found unharmed

The frantic search for a missing college student from Montgomery County came to an end Thursday after he surfaced hundreds of miles from his home.

Matthew Royer was found unharmed and was reunited with his family one week after he never arrived home to Skippack Twp., Montgomery Co.

"It's a relief because we were thinking the worst," said Sue Klipp, who lives across the street from the Royer family.

Klipp got word Thursday afternoon Matthew was found alive after what has been a week of worry and heartache for his family and his community.

"Everyone just did whatever they could do. We looked at possible routes he may ave taken in hopes of finding him," said Klipp.

Royer's neighbors set out on a search after he never arrived home for the summer after leaving his apartment at the University of Rhode Island. His parents lost touch with him Thursday night.

According to police, Royer was spotted at a gas station near Allentown, and possibly spotted again hours later in Myerstown, Lebanon Co.

"Matthew, if you can hear this, no matter what the circumstances are, your friends and your family, we all love you," said Janet Royer Monday, during a news conference with Pennsylvania State Police.

Investigators treated Royer's disappearance as a missing person case, but they did indicate he may have run off on his own.

The saga finally ended Thursday, but with little information. After reaching out to the media for help and all the resources used by police, Royer's family asked for privacy and considered this a closed matter.

Many questions still remain though. What was he doing in North Carolina, and why didn't he tell his parents?

For now, his neighbors said they're just relieved.

"I'm just so happy for her. I'm happy for the family, I just want to go over and give her a hug," said Gretchen Gabel, who lives in the same neighborhood.

State police said the case is closed and would not comment on what took the 21-year-old to North Carolina.

Police searching for Andre Collier; Said to be "armed and dangerous" man

Police in Montgomery County are searching for a man who, they say, is armed and dangerous. They said he and three others abducted and killed a 19-year-old man.

Back on May 5th at a home on Manatawny Street in West Pottsgrove Township -- on the Berks County border-- a 19-year-old was taken from his home at gunpoint while two others were tied up.

Police said they've arrested two men, but are looking for two more.

Bruce Levengood said on Sunday, May 5th, his niece was in his yard when two teenagers came to his house asking for help.

"I grabbed the phone, went out to the driveway. The boys were behind my house," said Levengood, "I went down. I asked the boys what was wrong. They were shaking like a leaf and they just told me someone had come in and abducted somebody. So, I called 9-1-1."

He said police arrived quickly and eventually learned his neighbor 19-year-old Kareem Ali Borowy was abducted.

"I'm a pastor and we had church service that night. We left. The police let us go out of our driveway. Probably got home 10 o'clock that night and that's really when we found out that what happened to him down Sanatoga," said Levengood.

Police said Borowy's body was found with a gunshot wound in the back and was left on the side of Sanatoga Station Road. Police said four men were involved in the home invasion, kidnapping and homicide.

They arrested Rasheed Teel and Charles Freeman.

"I just told my wife, I said they got two of them. She said, 'Well, praise the Lord.' We were hoping they would find them," said Levengood.

But they are looking for two more, an unidentified man and Andre Collier. They said Collier should be considered armed and dangerous. Levengood said, for 30 years, nothing like this has ever happened here.

"That's why we were totally shocked, but praise the Lord they caught two of them," said Levengood, "I hope they get the rest, get those people off the streets so this doesn't happen again."

Levengood said his neighbor hasn't been living in her home since her son was killed.

Police filed first, second and third degree murder charges. Anyone with information about Collier or the other man involved should contact police.

Residents in the Oklahoma City area can post that they are okay, and these messages can even be posted directly to their Facebook and/or Twitter accounts.

Safe and Well is very helpful in the aftermath of a disaster, like the one that hit Oklahoma City, especially when phones are down and communication is difficult.

It could take local Red Cross workers 12-36 hours to respond to a formal request for help. The time is based on the needs of the affected chapter.

Police looking for missing college student

State Police say a missing college student from Montgomery Co. may have been spotted 80 miles away, in Lebanon Co., on Friday. Meantime, Matthew Royer's mother made an impassioned plea for him to contact the family.

"Matthew, if you can hear this, no matter what the circumstances are, your friends and your family, we all love you," said Janet Royer at a Monday afternoon news conference.

Royer, 21, disappeared Thursday night, driving home from the University of Rhode Island. He was driving a 2008 silver Chevy Cobalt with Pennsylvania plates GZR 9059.

We know Royer stopped for gas just outside Allentown at I-78 and Route 100, about 40 miles from his home in Collegeville. Now, state police are investigating a possible sighting of Royer and his car 12 hours later -- in Lebanon Co., even farther from his home.

Troopers spent Monday afternoon interviewing the woman who called in that tip. According to Trooper Morgan Crummy, they don't believe she knows Royer, and don't believe Royer knows anyone else in the Lebanon area.

"We are currently investigating him as a missing person," said Crummy. "At this point, while it may be a voluntary move on Matthew's part on Matthew's part, we are still expending all of our resources in this investigation to locate Matthew."

Royer's mother said she only wants him home safe.

"We're here for you. Please contact us; call home," she said. "We will come anywhere, anyplace, any time for you. We are here. We love you, and we miss you."

Crummy would not say how certain they are that the car and the person spotted in Lebanon Co. was actually Royer. They also say there's no indication that he was in any trouble before he headed home last week.

If you have any information, call the Pennsylvania State Police in Skippack at 610-584-1250.

Charges filed in deadly home invasion robbery in West Pottsgrove

Two men are in custody and two others are being sought in a home invasion robbery that resulted in the death of a Montgomery County teenager.

Prosecutors on Monday filed charges of first, second and third degree murder against three of the men -- Andre Collier, Rasheed Teel and Charles Freeman. A fourth man involved remains unidentified.

Teel is already locked up in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility; Freeman was apprehended earlier Monday. Collier remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous, officials said.

Freeman drove Collier, Teel and the unidentified man to 1255 Manatawny St. in West Pottsgrove Township. Freeman remained outside while the three others stormed the home and bound the hands of three occupants with clear packing-style tape, authorities said.

The suspects demanded money from Kareem Ali Borowy, who was subsequently removed from the home at gunpoint and driven away by Freeman, police said. The remaining two occupants were able to free themselves and run to a neighbors' home to contact police.

Borowy, 19, was later found dead alongside Sanatoga Station Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, said police, adding that an autopsy revealed he died of a gunshot wound to the back.

Anyone with information about the case, Collier's whereabouts, or the identity of the fourth man is asked to contact the West Pottsgrove Police Department at 610-323-2090, Lower Pottsgrove Police Department at 610-326-1508 or the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368.

Two people are behind bars after a bizarre string of events in Montgomery County.

A man went to a pharmacy and a pizza shop in Pottstown and a grocery store in West Pottsgrove Township and tried robbing the places with his fingers in the shape of a gun, police said.

The man demanded drugs at the pharmacy, but he left when the pharmacist told him they didn't have any, police said.

The pizza shop owner was able to chase the man out when his daughter alerted him to the attempted robbery in Italian.

Police were able to pull the man and a woman over on Route 100, where they were placed under arrest. The pair is facing a number of charges.

Firefighters from two counties have taken control of a large fire that destroyed two barns in Montgomery County.

The fire was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of Congo Road in Douglass Township, near Gilbertsville.

Firefighters from Montgomery and neighboring Berks counties were dispatched to the scene.

The first crews on the scene reported the barns being fully-involved in flames. A large plume of smoke was reported to be seen from as far away as Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co.

Investigators have not yet determined what sparked the fire, but they have determined that it started in the larger of the two barns and spread from there. Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from reaching a house on the property.

No animals were reported to be injured in the fire, said officials, adding that recreational vehicles parked inside one of the barns were destroyed.

Police in two Montgomery County municipalities are looking for a suspected flasher.

Five indecent exposure incidents have been reported to authorities between April 6 and May 12 in Lower Providence or Upper Providence townships.

In each instance, the victims were walking along roadways or trails, in the late afternoon or early evening, usually between 3:20 p.m. and 7:25 p.m.

The offender would be in place before the victim arrived, police said, and would get out of his vehicle either without pants or with his pants pulled down.

Police said the offender would look at the victim while masturbating, and during one of the incidents the offender spoke with a Middle Eastern/Indian accent.

Four times the victims described the man as Middle Eastern/Indian and once as an Hispanic man.

He was also described as being between 25-40 years old, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, slender to medium build, short black hair and clean shaven.

Anyone who has experienced similar incidents, or has information is asked to call either Detective Charles DeFrangesco at Lower Providence Police: (610) 539-5900, or cdefrangesco@lowerprovidence.org or Detective Patrick Haines at Upper Providence Police: (610) 933-7899 x146, or 017hai@uprov-montco.org.

A suspect wounded in a shooting that killed a Pottstown man earlier this year will stand trial on murder charges.

Michael Hinton waived his right to a preliminary hearing before a district judge in Montgomery County on Friday.

Hinton is charged with first, second and third degree murder in the killing of Victor Enrique Bonilla Baez outside a bar in the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue on March 22.

Hinton was accidentally shot in the leg by one of the bullets, which police said was fired by his cousin, Maurice Andrews Jr.

Andrews is also charged with first, second and third degree murder. He's due in court for his preliminary hearing on May 31.

The day before the killing, investigators said Andrews tried to kidnap one of Baez's family members. When that failed, police said Andrews called up his cousin to plan the homicide.

A man who allegedly made off with more than $700 worth of baby formula apparently tried to take more a few days later from the same Bucks County store.

Surveillance cameras caught a man in the Landis Supermarket at 2685 County Line Road in West Rockhill Twp. making off with $745 worth of baby formula on Saturday.

The same man was seen loading formula into black canvas bags on Tuesday.

Store employees confronted him and he ran without the bags into the parking lot.

Police said the thief got into an older model maroon Ford Explorer with Pa. license plate that started with JH. The last four digits of the license plate are unknown but witnesses thought there was an '8' in the sequence.

The police report on Saturday described the getaway vehicle as a Chevrolet Suburban.

The suspect is around 20 years old with short cropped red hair.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pennridge Regional Police Dept. at 215-257-5104.

Schulmerich Carillons may leave Sellersville

Schulmerich Carillons, Inc., a Sellersville landmark company since 1950, is closing its doors.

"It's sad to see such a business move out of the borough," said Sellersville borough manager David Rivet.

Founded in 1935, Schulmerich is the world's largest producer of carillons and handbells and one of only a handful of handbell manufacturers in the world.

Although it moved to Sellersville in 1950, Schulmerich first began expanding into a former shirt-manufacturing plant in the borough in 1943.

Jonathan Goldstein, Schulmerich's new owner, said the Sellersville plant is "functionally obsolete." He said the "growing and thriving" company will look for a more updated facility, adding he is open to staying in Sellersville if another suitable site can be found for the needed production facilities.

"Sellersville has been our home for a long time," said Goldstein, who purchased the company nine months ago. He said Schulmerich is releasing a new electronic carillon today, its first new instrument in 15 years.

The plant is off South Main Street, at the southern end of Sellersville.

Goldstein has an agreement of sale with developer W.B. Homes to purchase the property and replace the factory with a "small" housing development.

The borough manager noted the industrial zoned property will have to be rezoned before houses could be built there. W.B. Homes has been in contact with the borough about that rezoning.

W.B. Homes has presented sketch plans of its proposed housing development to the borough's planning commission. Rivet says public hearings would be publicized and held before any zoning change would take place. He said the Bucks County Planning Commission also would have to approve any zoning change.

A Philadelphia abortion doctor has been sentenced to a third life term for killing an aborted baby that he described as so big it could "walk to the bus."

Dr. Kermit Gosnell was convicted this week of first degree murder in the deaths of three babies born alive, then stabbed with scissors. He was given two life sentences Tuesday in a deal with prosecutors that spares him a potential death sentence, and the third sentence was handed down Wednesday.

Gosnell, 72, was also sentenced to 2-1/2 to five years in prison for the 2009 overdose death of a patient. The sentences are consecutive, meaning Gosnell will spend the rest of his life in prison.

The case has made him a flashpoint in the nation's debate over legalized abortion.

Prosecutors argued that Gosnell savagely killed late-term babies born alive by severing their spines, and taught several staff members the technique. Nine former clinic workers were convicted in the case, and four others pleaded guilty to murder.

Despite the notoriety of the case, Gosnell has seemed oddly serene in court during the two-month trial, and apparently sees himself as a medical pioneer and tireless advocate for inner-city patients.

"I wanted to be an effective, positive force in the minority community," Gosnell told The Philadelphia Daily News in a 2010 interview, when he predicted he would be "vindicated" of the allegations in a harrowing grand jury report. He chose not to address the judge during Wednesday's sentencing.

But prosecutors said he grew increasingly reckless as he accumulated millions of dollars from his rogue clinic, which was described as a "pill mill" for addicts by day and an "abortion mill" by night.

The jury spent 10 days deliberating before finding that Gosnell had killed babies or had them killed. And the jury found him complicit in the death of the 41-year-old patient, a Virginia woman who was repeatedly sedated by his untrained medical assistants.

Gosnell was also convicted of hundreds of abortion law violations for performing illegal, third-term abortions or failing to counsel women and teens. Gosnell was acquitted in the deaths of four other infants.

Prosecutors have declined to comment on the verdict, citing a gag order that was expected to be lifted Wednesday when Gosnell's sentence is finalized.

Prosecutors had planned to seek the death penalty because Gosnell killed more than one person and his victims were especially vulnerable given their age. But Gosnell's own advanced age had made it unlikely he would ever be executed before his appeals ran out.

Gosnell's lawyer, Jack McMahon, said his client accepts the verdict and isn't sorry he went to trial. He said Gosnell gave up a somewhat better deal early on but wanted to air the issues in court and is satisfied that he did so.

"He wanted this case aired out in a courtroom and it got aired out in a courtroom in a fair way. And now he's accepting what will happen. He's an intelligent guy," said McMahon, who said Gosnell would now plead to federal drug charges that are still pending.

The sentencing deal, reached after hours of terse negotiations Tuesday, spares Gosnell's family the task of pleading for his life in court, McMahon said. Gosnell has six children, the youngest of them a teenager born to his third wife, who has also pleaded guilty in the case.

"He's a proud man. To bring his young family into court was something he did not want to do," McMahon said.

A 2011 grand jury investigation into Gosnell's alleged prescription drug trafficking led to the gruesome findings about his abortion clinic. During an FBI raid, authorities found 47 aborted fetuses stored in clinic freezers, jars of tiny severed feet, bloodstained furniture and dirty medical instruments, along with cats roaming the premises.

Prosecution experts said the Delaware teen carrying Baby A, whose death Gosnell was sentenced in Wednesday, was nearly 30 weeks pregnant when Gosnell aborted her fetus. A second baby was said to be alive for about 20 minutes before a clinic worker snipped the neck. A third was born in a toilet and was moving before another clinic employee severed the spinal cord, according to testimony.

A fourth baby let out a whimper before Gosnell cut the neck, prosecutors alleged. Gosnell was acquitted in that baby's death, the only one of the four in which no one testified to seeing the baby killed.

McMahon has argued that none of the fetuses was born alive and that any movements were posthumous twitching or spasms.
