WARWICK TWP., Pa. -

Three people were rushed to a hospital Friday after being freed from a car that crashed and became wedged beneath a tractor trailer, police said.

The accident happened just a few minutes after 1 p.m. at Bristol and Mearns roads in Warwick Twp., Bucks Co.

A tractor trailer operated by the U.S. Postal Service was turning from Bristol Road onto Mearns Road when the car entered the intersection and struck the trailer, just behind the tractor, police said.

The front-half of the car was crushed beneath the trailer, trapping three people inside the car, police said.

They had to be freed by emergency personnel and rushed to Abington Memorial Hospital for treatment, said police, who noted that all three victims were last reported to be in stable condition.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The intersection was closed for approximately two hours while police investigated the accident and crews cleared away the wreckage.

Preliminary statements from witnesses indicated the driver of the car went through the red light, police said.

Anyone else who has information about the accident, or who witnessed it, is asked to call Sgt. Richard Vona of the Warwick Township Police Dept. at 215-343-6102, ext. 103.
