Bra bandit swipes pricey garments from Victoria's Secret
Another thief has made off with thousands of dollars worth of bras from a Victoria's Secret store, police said.
The latest theft happened on Sunday at the Coventry Mall in North Coventry Twp., Chester Co., near Pottstown.
Sometime between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., police said someone made off with 50 bras, valued at about $3,000, from the shelving in front of the store. The theft wasn't discovered until Monday, police said.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the North Coventry Twp. Police Dept. at 610-323-8360.
This is the latest in a string of thefts from Victoria's Secret stores around the region and across the country.
The Coventry Mall store has been hit at least a half-dozen times over the years since it opened, said Chief Robert Schurr, North Coventry Twp. Police Dept., who added that a couple suspects were arrested last year.
The Victoria's Secret store at the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, Berks Co., has also been targeted by thieves a number of times over the years, police said. The latest theft happened earlier this month when they said someone stole more than $500 worth of ladies panties.
According to the Lancaster New Era newspaper, a woman made off with about 30 bras, worth $48 each, from the store at the Park City Mall in Lancaster on Jan. 2.
Thiefs hit the same store at least three times in 2011 and four times in 2010, with losses adding up to thousands of dollars.
A search of national news turned up stories about similar thefts at Victoria's Secret stores across the country.
The Lancaster newspaper cited experts as saying that sophisticated shoplifters snatch the store's popular merchandise and then sell it online or at flea markets.
