A grieving mother from Norristown says she will still move forward with the birthday party planned for her murdered son.
"It will be a celebration of his life," said Jacqueline Castile-Dixon, victim's mother.
Dixon's son, Kevin Allen, 17, was killed on Feb. 12, at his father's residence, located in the Hanover Garden Apartment complex in North Coventry Township, police said.
Police say Kevin's father had just received money from his income tax returns, and left $350 for Kevin to pick up. Family members say he was planning to use the money for clothes.
Police say Shakeem Carter, 20, from Norristown, followed Allen to his father's apartment and killed him.
Carter stabbed the Norristown Area High School junior more than 20 times, and then used cooking oil to set the student's body on fire, officials said.
"Three separate knives," said Tom Hogan, Chester County District Attorney. "All with blood on them. A butcher's knife, a fillet knife, and a knife with a serrated blade."
Carter disposed of the clothes he was allegedly wearing at the time of the crime, investigators said, but he never discarded the shoes.
"And we tested his shoes," Hogan said, "and found blood on his shoes."
Carter has since been arrested and is facing a long list of charges, including second-degree murder, arson, and abuse of a corpse, investigators said.
No doubt, details Jacqueline will want to forget as she plans to more forward with her murdered son's birthday party.
"I'm just happy that he's caught and he'll never get out of jail again. That's all," Dixon said.
The birthday party will be by invitation only, but there will be a vigil open to the public.
The public vigil is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Park Springs Recreation Center in Park Springs, Pa.
