A four-vehicle pileup closed part of the NE Extension of the Turnpike for several hours Monday morning.

The accident happened around 4:40 a.m. in the southbound lanes between the Quakertown and Lansdale exits.

State police said the accident involved two cars and two commercial trucks and at least one person was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Twp., Lehigh Co., in critical condition.

Traffic was detoured off the turnpike at the Quakertown exit as the road was closed for about five hours.
