The Bucks County Commissioners deemed Dec. 19, 2012 as John Dougherty Appreciation Day during Wednesday's Commissioner meeting.
John D. Dougherty, Jr. has served Bucks County and its 625,000 residents for the last two decades with a distinction as Director of Emergency Services.
Emergency Services coordinates emergency preparation, response and recovery for incidents such as river and creek flooding, hurricane and tropical storm damage, hazardous materials, fires and various other threats to the county.
Dougherty was Chair of the Southeast Pennsylvania Regional Task Force where he worked with emergency management teams from Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties to share ideas, resources for the benefit of the entire region.
"Nobody can do anything without a good team, and I've had a great team through the years," Dougherty stated, thanking his staff, county detectives and the Commissioners for their support. "I truly will miss everyone."
Scott T. Forster will be taking Dougherty's position as Director of Emergency Management on December 31, 2012.
"I think he's a very qualified good individual and you will be in good hands," Dougherty said.
Dougherty received a standing ovation for his service and was thanked by Robert G. Loughery, Commissioner Chair, for the legacy he will leave in the county.
