CHELTENHAM TWP., Pa. -

A fire at a shopping center in Montgomery County has killed one person and damaged nearly a half dozen stores.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m. Thursday at the Melrose Shopping Center in Cheltenham. Officials said police pulled one person from the burning building and that the victim later died at a hospital. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

The fire was under control shortly after 4:30 a.m. Friday, fire officials said.

The fire, investigators said, may have started in a beauty supply store and spread to four other shops. Others suffered smoke and water damage.

The cause has not been determined.
