Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk raises $4.6 million for breast cancer research, education
The 2012 Susan G. Komen Philadelphia 3-Day™ walk may be over, but the fight against breast cancer continues.
The annual fundraising walk in Philadelphia concluded Sunday, and organizers said the event raised $4.6 million for breast cancer research, scientific programs and community-based breast health and education programs.
“We are so thankful for Philadelphia’s continued support of our mission to end breast cancer,” said Sheri Phillips, national spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day™. “This is our ninth successful event in Philadelphia and we are excited to announce the Komen 3-Day will return to this amazing city for the 2013 Series.”
More than 1,700 participants began the walk Friday, and spent the weekend walking 60 miles through Pennsylvania communities and camped two nights at the Convention Center.
On Sunday, these women and men concluded their three-day journey with a powerful closing ceremony at the Navy Yard.
The 3-Day will return to Philadelphia Oct. 4 – 6, 2013. For more information or to register, visit The3Day.org.
